Instead of opting for the traditional black suit with white shirt, why not change up the colors and patterns a little? Many grooms are opting for cool, modern colors like grey, or even a nice beige shade. Pair that with a fun plaid or polka dot shirt! Or maybe a cute bow-tie! You can even  have him wear suspenders if that’s what you fancy.  Grooms have also been seen wearing waistcoats or vests instead of suits– all depends on the groom’s personal style!

Shoes and socks are another way for your man to stand out. Go for a dapper pair of shoes, and find a pair of striped or colored socks! It’s sure to catch peoples’ eyes, and it’ll definitely look adorable in photographs. You can accessories the groom with a non-traditional boutonniere, personalized cuff links, or personalized collar stays (pretty awesome!) Write a personalized message for your groom on the collar stays and send it to him before the wedding ceremony!

“Then we were starving and hit their FAVORITE dive bar, Hinano’s, in dressy clothes to grab their famous cheeseburgers, and then ran off to the beach for some romantic pics.  We then had to race back to their house, change, climb on the roof and light candles for the finale recreation of his proposal by candlelight at sunset….We made it just in time to grab an amazing red/orange sunset and have a glass of wine.  What a PERFECT end to an EPIC day!”

Katie and Rob held their intimate Missouri wedding at Katie’s parents’ house in their very own backyard overlooking the water!

We asked Katie about her favorite moment from the day.  “My favorite moment was watching Rob get choked up as he watched my mom walk me down the garden path to the patio where we said our vows.  My dad and brother were playing an acoustic version of “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure, and we were standing in the fall sunshine by the lake behind my parents’ house where I grew up.  It all came together to create the most poignant feeling.”

For their reception their 30+ guests headed to the Perlow-Stevens Gallery for dinner and dancing and a fall-like setting.

The wedding was homespun with the help of the bride’s sister who hand a hand in the design of the day.

The couple’s wedding photographer, Catherine Rhodes shared with us her love affair for them!  “Katie and Rob are a beautiful couple, full of life and so in love. It was such a pleasure photographing their day and being a part of such a warm and joyous occasion!”

We asked the couple for their advice for future couples.  Their answer?  “The simpler, the better!”

He focused a lot of attention on the beautiful backs of the gowns, which I love since it’s what your guests will see at the ceremony!

He also created a lot of unique necklines that make these fashion forward numbers stand out from the crowd!
