Engage!12: The Breakers Recap

the breakers

It’s day one of my Engage!12: The Breakers event recap.  I’ve been delayed in posting this because I just didn’t even know where to begin!  Engage is a twice a year wedding business summit that rocks my world every time I arrive.  Parties, inspirational speakers, great friends and wonderful times are packed into this three day fete.  It’s designed for wedding professionals gather, learn, and improve their businesses to serve couples better.  But the event is so much more than that.

So, not to get off topic today (there’s still plenty of wedding ideas below), but first, I want to thank Rebecca and Kath for including me in this, the most magical part of the wedding industry.  The event was their tenth (and a perfect ten at that) and I have been lucky enough to be a part of every single one.  That kind of blows my mind when I think back to everything I’ve learned from them, the opportunities that have come from Engage over the years, and the incredible friends I’ve made along the way.

This time the summit was held at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, FL.  Famous for lavish weddings and over the top luxury, they certainly did not disappoint.  From their gorgeous ballrooms to their incredible food, The Breakers showed us how spectacular weddings in Florida can truly be.

So here is Kath and Rebecca.  The two most amazing women in the wedding industry.  If you want to learn more about them, check out their company, Engaging Concepts.  But what you can’t learn from their site is how truly special they are.  Yes, bear with the cheese (it only happens twice a year); I cannot say enough about how these women have shaped our industry and our lives for the better.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the best thing about Engage is knowing them.  They not only help design and set wedding trends each of us use day in and day out but they build us all up to be better at what we do for you…for you.

Oh, and they have some pretty amazing style too.  Each of their events is dressed and designed to perfection.  Since this time it was in Florida, is was only fitting that the FL orange be the color and theme inspiration.  From orange chairs to orange centerpieces, every detail was thought of!

Here’s a mini snack break we enjoyed, hosted by the celebrity chef and caterer, Peter Callahan, the king of mini menus.  That’s a tiny Bloody Mary cocktail!

To keep us on task during the educational sessions, Gifts for the Good Life created these orange juice carton office accessories!!  How do they think of these things?!?

Then we had the speeches, many of them by people I count as dear friends both in and out of the industry.  This is a snapshot of the speech by Liene Stevens from The Splendid Collective.  Liene is consumer psychology expert specializing in the wedding and lifestyle industries and always wows me with insights I didn’t even know I didn’t know.  She’s not only smart, but incredibly thoughtful and  wonderful too.  In her awesome talk about millennials she gave a few of us younger generation  kids a shout out with sketches created by Kristy Rice.  That’s me!

I was fortunate to share the stage with members of the bridal media, some of my favorite women: Anja Winikka from The Knot, Jen Stein from Destination I Do Magazine, Jill Meister from Meister Innovative, Susan Moynihan from Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Magazine, and Shira Savada from Martha Stewart Weddings.

Then, when the hard work was done, it was time for a few fabulous fetes!

Orange inspired cocktails were of course on the menu!

And a fun photo booth telling new friends where we came from was designed to get people to ‘engage.’  Susan Moynihan is one of the my favorite things about Engage.  She may be the editor of a mega bridal magazine but she’s also one of those women you just feel lucky to know.  Miss you already my friend!

Then it was back to the parties!  This clear tent overlooked the ocean and lit up the night with chandeliers and edison bulbs.  Stunning!

That’s just the beginning of Engage.  Stay tuned for more wedding ideas and incredible events in the days to come.
